China’s Global AI Dominance Expands Following DeepSeek Triumph
/Article

DeepSeek has proven that it is not necessary to spend billions to develop artificial intelligence, igniting a revival in the Chinese tech industry. In response to DeepSeek's cost-effective model that outperformed OpenAI, Chinese tech leaders have flooded the market with affordable AI services, challenging premium offerings from companies like OpenAI and Google. Chinese firms have recently launched numerous product updates and releases, with Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent, and Ant Group introducing their own AI technologies to compete with DeepSeek. These developments are not just a trend but also an initiative by Chinese developers to establish global standards in AI and secure a larger market share. While the impact of these new AI models on Western companies is uncertain, they are increasing pressure on US firms like OpenAI and Nvidia. OpenAI is considering sharing some of its technology for free, following DeepSeek's success with an open-source approach, but may raise prices for its advanced products. If the low-cost model introduced by DeepSeek becomes widespread, it could potentially reduce profits for Nvidia, which focuses on expensive AI chips, prompting adjustments in valuation, according to Amr Awadallah, the CEO of Vectara Inc.
