If you are a frequent traveler with United Airlines, there are various advantages to getting a United credit card. United has partnered with Chase to offer co-branded MileagePlus cards that come with flight discounts, benefits such as priority boarding and free checked bags, and more.
Recently, these cards have been reintroduced with added perks and temporary welcome offers, but with an increase in annual fees. Below are the updates to each of the United credit cards:
1. The United Gateway℠ Card remains at a $0 annual fee with an introductory offer to earn 30,000 bonus miles after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months, along with enhanced benefits. 2. The United℠ Explorer Card now has a $0 intro fee for the first year, then $150, with an 80,000 bonus miles offer after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months and updated benefits. 3. The United Quest℠ Card sees an increased annual fee to $350 with a welcome offer of 90,000 bonus miles and updated benefits. 4. The United Club℠ Card now carries a $695 annual fee, with an enhanced welcome offer and updated benefits. 5. The United℠ Business Card has a raised annual fee to $150, with a welcome offer of 125,000 bonus miles and updated benefits. 6. The United Club℠ Business Card now has a $695 annual fee with updated benefits and a welcome offer.
These changes are effective for new applicants upon approval, with the increased annual fees. However, to receive the augmented welcome bonus, one must act before May 7, 2025. Existing cardholders can begin benefiting from the updated perks now but will only face the higher annual fee upon their next card renewal, starting August 1, 2025, for most cards.
For travelers loyal to United Airlines, opening a United MileagePlus credit card can provide significant benefits, especially with the limited-time welcome bonuses. Before applying, consider your financial situation to ensure the benefits outweigh the higher annual fees. Additionally, achieving the spending requirements for the new benefits is essential to make the most of the card.
It's crucial to note that while United MileagePlus cards offer great airline-specific perks, they may lack the flexibility of other rewards cards. If you frequently fly with United or its partners, a United MileagePlus card could be a good fit. Otherwise, a general travel rewards card with broader redemption options might be more suitable.
