The Chairman of the Korean Red Cross, Kim Chul Soo, disclosed on the 25th that actress So Yoo Jin, who serves as the organization's public relations ambassador, generously donated 30 million won (approximately 22,300 USD) to support victims of the recent large forest fires in various regions of South Korea, including Sancheong in Gyeongnam, Uiseong in Gyeongbuk, and Ulju in Ulsan.
The Korean Red Cross has been actively engaged in emergency relief efforts in the affected areas since the fires ignited on the 21st. So Yoo Jin's contribution will be utilized by the organization to provide assistance to residents impacted by the fires.
Expressing her sentiments, Ambassador So Yoo Jin remarked, “I hope this aid can offer some relief to those who have been compelled to evacuate their homes due to the forest fires.” She also extended her prayers for the well-being and safety of the individuals involved in firefighting and the relief operations for the victims.
Following her appointment as a public relations ambassador in June 2019, So Yoo Jin has consistently supported marginalized populations through financial donations. These have included initiatives aimed at combating the COVID-19 pandemic, aiding in the recovery from forest fires in Gangwon-do, and assisting in covering medical expenses for disadvantaged children.
Simultaneously, the Korean Red Cross has initiated an emergency fundraising campaign specifically aimed at providing relief for wildfire victims, with the campaign scheduled to run until April 22.
In a separate context, So Yoo Jin’s spouse, culinary expert Baek Jong Won, recently faced criticism pertaining to issues like country-of-origin labeling and the labeling of Beckham pork content. He has since issued an apology addressing these concerns.
