Samsung Electronics' Vice Chairman and CEO, Han Jong Hee, passed away at 63, having led the company's Device eXperience (DX) Division. Industry sources reported that Han suffered a cardiac arrest after collapsing over the weekend and was unable to recover.
Han, born in 1962, was a well-known expert in TV development and a crucial figure in Samsung's dominance in the global TV market for 19 years. He started his career at Samsung Electronics in 1988 after graduating from Cheonan High School and obtaining a degree in electronic engineering from Inha University. Over the years, he held various roles in the company, eventually being appointed as head of the Visual Display Business in 2017.
In 2021, Han was promoted to Vice Chairman and led the DX Division, overseeing consumer electronics businesses. He worked closely with the head of the Device Solutions (DS) Division to navigate the fast-changing tech industry landscape. Additionally, he served as head of the Digital Appliances (DA) Division and chairman of the Quality Innovation Committee, contributing to advancements in products like TVs, home appliances, and smartphones.
Samsung Electronics expressed gratitude for Han's 37 years of dedication and global success in the TV business despite challenges. His memorial is taking place at the Samsung Medical Center Funeral Hall, with the funeral scheduled for March 27th at the Sian Family Memorial Park. Han was set to speak at a Samsung event on March 26th, where the company intended to unveil its new Bespoke AI lineup.
