Popularly known as U-Know Yunho from the K-pop group TVXQ, Jung Yunho is about to step into the Japanese film industry with a role in the upcoming adaptation of the South Korean blockbuster 'The Outlaws', as revealed by various insiders in the entertainment sector.
The Japanese remake, currently titled 'The Outlaws', is in the early stages of production under the direction of Eiji Uchida. Yunho has landed a significant part and will share the screen with well-known Japanese actors.
This venture marks Yunho's debut in the Japanese film industry and his first substantial role in a feature film, other than a brief appearance in the 2014 Korean movie 'Ode to My Father'. His involvement in the action-packed thriller category is heightening the excitement surrounding his performance in his inaugural full-length film role.
Known for wowing crowds at Tokyo Dome with TVXQ, Yunho is now anticipated to translate his fame into a successful run at the box office. Following his upcoming project on Disney+ titled 'Fine', his involvement in 'The Outlaws' underscores his proactive pursuit of acting roles.
The Japanese adaptation is a reimagining of the 2017 South Korean action film 'The Outlaws', which kickstarted a record-breaking series that has attracted over 40 million viewers so far. The Japanese film team acquired the rights for the remake some years back but paused the project temporarily. With favorable investment conditions now in place, the production is back on track.
The original collection, starring Ma Dong Suk, not only achieved tremendous success in Korea but also gained a strong following in Japan. Japanese actors like Munetaka Aoki and Jun Kunimura made appearances in the third Korean installment, emphasizing the franchise's widespread appeal.
Apart from Yunho, reports suggest that discussions are ongoing with other Korean actors to join the cast of the Japanese remake, sparking curiosity about their contributions to this reinterpretation.
Helmed by Eiji Uchida, recognized for his works such as 'Love for Sale' (2017), 'Detective Mariko in Kabukicho' (2022), 'Midnight Swan' (2003), 'Silent Love' (2025), and the Netflix series 'The Naked Director', the remake will showcase Japanese talents Koshi Mizukami, Sota Fukushi, and Sho Aoyagi.
Filming is scheduled to commence in June.
