Erykah Badu has confessed to vandalizing her own Tesla car amidst widespread protests against Tesla CEO Elon Musk. She humorously explained the act as an attempt to follow the current trend on Sunday. The Grammy-winning artist's admission coincides with a series of destructive events affecting Tesla vehicles nationwide, leading to an FBI investigation.

These incidents, including vandalism, smashed windows, gunshots, and arson, are believed to be politically motivated reactions to Musk's controversial political ties and open support for Donald Trump. Acts of vandalism on Tesla properties often feature slogans like "RESIST" and "No Musk," sometimes combined with symbols resembling swastikas. In one instance, a woman from Colorado was accused of damaging Tesla cars with Molotov cocktails and spray-painting "Nazi cars" on a building nearby.

President Trump criticized the protests, deeming them as domestic terrorism. Badu has previously expressed her disapproval of Trump and his Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement. She described Trump as an antagonist of "resistance" to Baduizm in a 2018 interview. Badu popularized the term "woke" in her 2008 track "Master Teacher," and she talked about the Republican Party's interpretation of the term during a 2023 interview. Badu suggested that the term was being used as another way to refer to Black individuals.

She clarified that her original intention behind "woke" was about being conscious and in harmony with nature. Badu also reflected on Trump's political journey, calling his 2016 presidential campaign "The craziest thing I've ever witnessed."
