The police announced on March 24 that investigations will proceed regarding defamation cases involving actor Kim Soo Hyun and the late Kim Sae Ron.

Park Hyun Soo, Acting Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, briefed the media on that day. He mentioned that a complaint was filed by Kim Soo Hyun's side against HOVERLAB (Garo Sero Research Institute) at Gangnam Police Station on the 20th for violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes. He confirmed that an investigation, including questioning the complainant, will take place. Another investigation is being carried out on YouTuber Lee Jin Ho's defamation accusations linked to Kim Sae Ron.

The issue arose after HOVERLAB released photos purportedly provided by Kim Sae Ron's family, claiming Kim Soo Hyun had a relationship with Kim Sae Ron for six years, beginning in November 2015 when she was a minor. Initially denying the claims, Kim Soo Hyun's side altered their stance following additional photos, stating their relationship only began after Kim Sae Ron became an adult.

A complaint was filed against HOVERLAB with the Gangnam Police Station on March 20 for persistently making allegations about Kim Soo Hyun's previous relationship.

Additionally, Bu Ji Seok, a legal representative from the law firm Buyou representing Kim Sae Ron's family, sued YouTuber Lee Jin Ho on the 19th for spreading false information. Lee Jin Ho had been posting videos denying Kim Sae Ron and Kim Soo Hyun's past relationship on his YouTube channel since 2022, but made the videos private after Kim Sae Ron was found deceased in her home in Seongdong-gu, Seoul on February 16.

Kim Sae Ron was fined 20 million won in the following year for drunk driving in May 2022 in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam. Reports indicated she was facing financial difficulties before her passing in her home the previous month.
