Shaw Walters, the founder, excitedly announced this update to their community, highlighting the progressive journey of their project and its future prospects.
Transitioning from ai16z to ElizaOS After Request from a16z
Initially named as a playful nod to their ambitious goal of raising $75,000 to develop an autonomous investor, the project swiftly outgrew its initial vision, garnering substantial attention and support from enthusiasts and backers alike.
Acknowledging the burgeoning user base and widespread adoption, the company realized the significance of establishing a unique and cohesive brand identity.
Walters emphasized that the decision to rebrand to ElizaOS is a strategic maneuver aimed at positioning the project for future triumphs. He reiterated that the new identity paves the way for collaborations with key players in the Web3 landscape.
“In rebranding to ElizaOS, we unlock thrilling opportunities for partnerships with established entities eager to harness our revolutionary technology,” Walters expressed on X.
However, it came to light that venture capital powerhouse Andreessen Horowitz, popularly known as a16z, urged the project to switch its name due to potential confusion. Chris Dixon, managing partner at a16z Crypto, disclosed this in a recent Unchained podcast episode, citing concerns about brand clarity.
“We had no affiliation with AI16z. We understand they are in the process of changing it, per our request. The similarity was causing some confusion,” Dixon clarified.
Despite the rebrand, Eliza, the project's beloved mascot, will continue to symbolize the AI platform. While the ai16z ticker remains for now, the community will determine future alterations once the DAO voting module is live. Crucially, Eliza Labs has committed to refraining from issuing additional tokens.
The ai16z token witnessed a significant surge following President Donald Trump’s announcement of a $500 billion investment in private AI infrastructure. Nevertheless, it currently rests approximately 75% below its peak value.

As Eliza Labs gears up for the next stage, they are diligently crafting Eliza v2, touted as the most advanced agent framework to date. Walters underscored the company's unwavering dedication to developing artificial general intelligence (AGI) and driving substantial progress in the industry.
