“Oracle Set to Take the Lead in Trump’s TikTok Strategy”

The Chinese technology company ByteDance has about two weeks left to prevent a US ban on its video-sharing app TikTok, and it appears that Oracle could have a significant role in this. ByteDance has been ordered by the US government to sell TikTok but was given a temporary reprieve by President Trump. If ByteDance fails to find a buyer for TikTok's US operations, a ban enforced by Congress will come into effect on April 5.

Vice President JD Vance expressed confidence that a resolution to address US national security concerns would be reached by early April. Several potential buyers have emerged, including Microsoft, AI startup Perplexity, a group of wealthy investors, and possibly even the US government, according to President Trump.

Among the potential buyers, Oracle has been extensively mentioned. The tech company, led by billionaire Larry Ellison, is TikTok's primary cloud provider and has previously tried to acquire the app. Recent reports indicate that Oracle is a strong candidate to help salvage TikTok. A proposed deal could see Oracle ensuring data security for American users in exchange for a stake in the company, with ByteDance retaining control of the app's algorithm.

Another proposal outlined by Reuters involves major non-Chinese investors in ByteDance increasing their stakes and acquiring TikTok's US operations to establish a new entity. Oracle would be responsible for safeguarding US user data to prevent access by China, potentially reducing Chinese ownership in the new venture below the threshold to avoid a US ban.
