The Federal Communications Commission has launched an investigation into several Chinese companies such as Huawei Technology, ZTE, Hangzhou Hikvision, China Mobile, and China Telecom to assess whether they are trying to circumvent U.S. restrictions. These companies have been included in the FCC's "Covered List," which identifies specific communication equipment and services that could pose a threat to national security.
FCC Chair Brendan Carr mentioned that these companies might still be operating in the U.S. as they might not believe that the designation restricts certain types of operations. Other companies being looked into include Hytera Communications, Dahua Technology Company, Pacifica Networks/ComNet, and China Unicom (Americas). The investigation is ongoing.
