Paralyzed YouTuber Park Wi highlights lack of accessibility at prestigious awards show venue

During the live broadcast of the 2024 MBC Entertainment Awards, YouTuber Park Wi, who is paralyzed from the waist down, brought attention to the absence of barrier-free access at the venue.

Originally slated for December 29th, the awards show was postponed to January 28th following a tragic incident involving a Jeju Air passenger plane earlier that day.

Park Wi, along with Song Ji Eun, was in the running for the Best Couple Award. When asked about their chances of winning, Song Ji Eun graciously stated, "Just being here is already an honor. We're here to celebrate the deserving winners."

In a candid moment, Park Wi remarked, "I noticed the lack of a ramp around here, so I guess winning isn't in the cards for me."

Host Jun Hyun Moo, taken aback by the comment, promised, "If you win, we'll make sure a ramp is set up immediately. But we can't do it on the spot, as it would be too obvious," in an attempt to address the issue.

Quickly clarifying that it was a jest, Park Wi and Song Ji Eun reassured everyone, with Song Ji Eun adding, "It was all in good fun."

A slightly flustered Jun Hyun Moo responded, "Please avoid jokes like that during live broadcasts. I'm getting nervous here. Rest assured, we have everything under control."

Ultimately, the Best Couple Award was snagged by Yoo Jae Suk and Haha from 'Hangout With Yoo.'
