Yoo Seung Joon, also known as Steve Yoo, has filed his third administrative lawsuit to gain permission to enter South Korea. The initial hearing for this case is scheduled for today, March 20.
The first court session will take place at the Seoul Administrative Court's Administrative Division 5 and will be presided over by Judge Kim Soon Yeol. Yoo is challenging the Los Angeles Consulate and the Ministry of Justice, requesting confirmation that there is no entry ban decision in place and seeking the revocation of the visa denial.
Yoo Seung Joon has faced a 23-year ban from entering South Korea due to accusations of evading military service. In 2002, before his compulsory military duty, Yoo departed the country for a performance abroad and later gained U.S. citizenship, thus exempting him from military obligations. Consequently, the South Korean government imposed an entry ban on him in February of the same year, preventing his return to the country.
In October 2015, Yoo applied for an Overseas Korean (F-4) visa at the Los Angeles Consulate, but his request was rejected. Yoo took legal action and won two final court decisions at the Supreme Court.
Despite his previous victories, in June of last year, the consulate once again declined to issue Yoo a visa. Consequently, Yoo initiated a third lawsuit in September of the same year, aiming to challenge the visa denial and validate the absence of an entry ban decision by the Ministry of Justice.
The outcome of this legal proceeding holds significant weight for Yoo's future endeavors to re-enter South Korea.
