Eugene “Big U” Henley, a well-known figure in South Los Angeles for his roles in the music industry and community advocacy, turned himself in to FBI agents following accusations of leading a criminal syndicate. This news has had an impact in South LA, where Henley was respected for his work as a mediator and philanthropist. He is facing serious charges, including murder, running a criminal enterprise, and misusing nonprofit funds for illicit purposes. Another person, Bryan Mejia, who is believed to be associated with Henley, also surrendered to authorities.

Henley was praised for his community work through his nonprofit, Developing Options, but federal investigators allege that the organization was a front for criminal activities. Additionally, he has ties to the Rollin’ 60s Crips gang.

Despite the positive image he projected in the community, rapper Helecia Choyce, who collaborated with Henley, revealed her experiences of fear and mistreatment. She claimed that Henley subjected her to abuse, threats, and control, creating a toxic and exploitative relationship. Choyce’s attempts to obtain a restraining order were unsuccessful, and her allegations are separate from the charges brought by the FBI.

Federal authorities have connected part of their case against Henley to the 2021 murder of a young rapper in Las Vegas, reportedly motivated by a disrespectful lyric aimed at Henley. Questions have also arisen about the misuse of funds donated to Henley’s nonprofit, potentially involving prominent figures such as Shaquille O’Neal. While some donations may have supported youth programs, investigators believe a significant portion of the funds were diverted for other purposes.

Both Henley and Mejia are currently in federal custody as the investigation unfolds. AllHipHop will continue to provide updates on this case.
