According to a report by the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, Chevron, a major U.S. oil company, is seeking more time from the U.S. government to phase out its operations in Venezuela. President Donald Trump's administration recently granted Chevron a 30-day extension until early April to conclude its oil activities and exports from Venezuela to the U.S., which were authorized under a 2022 license.
As per the Wall Street Journal, Chevron's CEO, Mike Wirth, has engaged in discussions with key figures in Trump's administration, like Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, to request an extension of at least 60 days past the April deadline. Despite a request for comment from Reuters, Chevron has not responded yet.
