Amazon fails in legal battle against unprecedented $812 million privacy fine imposed by Luxembourg
/Article

Amazon has failed to overturn a 746 million euro ($812.4 million) fine issued by Luxembourg's privacy regulator. The Luxembourg National Commission for Data Protection imposed the fine on Amazon for violating EU privacy regulations. Despite Amazon's appeal, the country's administrative court upheld the regulator's decision on March 18. The CNPD's ruling also requires Amazon to address the data processing issues. Amazon is contemplating appealing the court's decision, arguing that the fine was imposed based on subjective interpretations of the law without prior guidance. Europe has been stringent on enforcing data protection regulations, particularly through the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The CNPD stated that the fine would be temporarily suspended pending any appeals.
