EU Antitrust Regulators Direct Apple to Embrace Competition from Rivals
/Article

The European Commission has mandated Apple to open its closed ecosystem to competition, ensuring compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) to regulate Big Tech's dominance. Apple is required to give other technology companies access to its systems for seamless connectivity with iPhones and iPads. App developers can now request interoperability from Apple, with a designated process and timeline outlined by the EU. Apple criticized the decision, claiming it hinders innovation and benefits competitors. The EU stated that these measures provide regulatory clarity for both Apple and developers. Failure to comply could lead to investigations and fines, possibly amounting to 10% of Apple's global sales.
