Min Hee Jin, a former CEO of ADOR, has succeeded in a defamation lawsuit against individuals who made harmful comments about her. The Seoul Central District Court's Judge Ahn Hyun Jin ruled in favor of Min Hee Jin, requiring eight individuals to pay damages ranging from ₩50,000 to ₩100,000 each. The decision is final as neither party appealed.
Further lawsuits against online trolls are anticipated for Min Hee Jin, who was accused by HYBE in April 2023 of trying to separate ADOR from HYBE. Following defamatory online comments, Min Hee Jin pursued legal action seeking ₩3 million per individual for emotional distress.
The court recognized the defamatory nature of the comments but reduced the compensation amounts due to varying levels of severity. Comments like "Just three letters: crazy b*h" warranted ₩100,000, while remarks such as "I want to punch her" and similar were awarded ₩50,000. Statements like "Cunning b*h" did not receive compensation as they were viewed as strong opinions rather than outright defamation.
Although Min Hee Jin was removed from her CEO position at ADOR in August 2023, NJZ terminated its exclusive contracts with ADOR on November 29th. ADOR filed a lawsuit to confirm the contract's validity and requested a court injunction to prevent NJZ from independently engaging in endorsement and promotional activities without ADOR's consent.
Despite the legal disputes, NJZ, formerly known as NewJeans, is continuing its activities independently and plans to perform at 'ComplexCon' in Hong Kong on March 23rd, introducing new music. A hearing for the contract dispute is scheduled for April 3rd.
