Instacart is incorporating more artificial intelligence into its platform to assist customers in shopping according to their dietary requirements or to provide healthier options. The company introduced a new feature called Smart Shop, allowing customers to customize their shopping experience based on health needs.
This feature includes 14 dietary preferences like gluten-free, high protein, low carb, organic, and preservative-free options, as well as 30 health tags such as gluten-free, grass-fed, heart-healthy, and vegan. Instacart's Chief Product Officer, Daniel Danker, expressed the company's goal to transform grocery shopping into a personalized and convenient experience tailored to individual health goals and dietary restrictions.
This development comes at a time when more people are using weight-loss medications and becoming more health-conscious about their diets. Instacart has collaborated with the American Diabetes Association to provide nutritional guidance through their Inspiration Pages.
While the use of AI in online grocery shopping is not new, it is a growing trend in the industry. Other companies like Kroger have also introduced features promoting healthier shopping choices, such as a healthy cart option. Instacart's emphasis on health and personalization reflects the evolving landscape of digital grocery shopping experiences.
