Debate Sparked by Comedian Lee Suji’s Parody: Satire or Mockery of Lee Cheong Ah?
/Article

Comedian Lee Suji has been at the center of a heated discussion due to her recent parody, with actress Lee Cheong Ah seemingly being the target.

The parody, featured on Lee Suji’s YouTube channel named ‘Hot Issueji,’ gained significant attention. This led to a revisit of her older parody content, particularly videos posted on the comedy channel ‘Ne Kalkomani,’ which she collaborated on with other comedians.

One of the resurfaced videos is titled ‘Actress Anna’s Rome Vlog: Daily Life, Reading, and Group Buying,’ which was released on June 25th the previous year. In the video, Lee Suji takes on the role of actress Anna and creates a vlog showcasing her trip to Rome.

In the video parody, Actress Anna is shown starting her day by drinking water, looking out of the window, and savoring a morning coffee at a leisurely pace. She describes her morning routine, contemplating her plans for the day, her mindset, and thoughts on acting while meditating. The vlog continues with scenes of her reading, washing her face, and going about her daily routine.

Although this video was posted eight months ago, it has recently gained a new wave of attention following the buzz surrounding Lee Suji’s Daechi Mom parody. With a growing interest in her comedy content, her previous videos are now under scrutiny.

Nevertheless, similar to the controversies surrounding the Daechi Mom parody, opinions on the Actress Anna parody are split. Some viewers feel that Lee Suji’s portrayal mocks a specific individual. Critics argue that targeting and making someone an object of ridicule does not align with the essence of comedy and may border on mockery or inciting hate.

The controversy escalated amid speculation that Actress Anna might have been inspired by Lee Cheong Ah, known for sharing travel and lifestyle vlogs on her YouTube channel. Furthermore, the debate intensified when Lee Suji liked a comment suggesting a resemblance between the character and Lee Cheong Ah.

Conversely, some online users praised Lee Suji’s parody, appreciating her ability to capture the refined yet unrefined vocabulary of certain actresses. They lauded her comedic skills, describing her as a contemporary comedic genius and commending her performance.

In other news, Starship Entertainment’s ‘Debut's Plan’ has aired its first episode.
