Shundale Barnett’s recent arrest is stirring up even more tension in the ongoing quest for justice following the tragic killing of Memphis rapper Young Dolph.

A significant breakthrough has been made in the pursuit of justice as Shundale Barnett, a fugitive on the run for over two years, has been apprehended in connection to the 2021 murder of Young Dolph. Barnett now faces a slew of charges including accessory after the fact, attempted first-degree murder, and theft of property.

With Barnett's capture, more pieces of the puzzle are falling into place, shedding light on the alleged network of individuals involved in the fatal incident.

The arrest warrant for Barnett was issued in January 2022, coinciding with the apprehension of Justin Johnson by U.S. Marshals in Indiana.

However, things took an unexpected turn when Shelby County authorities decided not to bring Barnett back from Indiana, ultimately leading to his release from jail, allowing him to remain at large for over two years.

Authorities claim that Barnett played a role in aiding his cousin Justin Johnson, a key suspect in Young Dolph’s death, in evading law enforcement. Documents indicate that Barnett provided a rental car for Johnson after the rapper's murder, setting off a chain of events that culminated in Johnson's capture.

Moreover, Barnett's involvement ties closely with other co-conspirators, such as Jermarcus Johnson, who facilitated communication among the suspects during their escape. Jermarcus entered a guilty plea and received a probation sentence of six years for his role.

Justin Johnson, known by his rap moniker "Straight Drop," was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2024. His partner Cornelius Smith is currently awaiting trial on murder and conspiracy charges after pleading not guilty.

The plot thickens as Hernandez Govan, believed to be the mastermind behind the murder, is set to face trial in July for his alleged role in orchestrating the crime.

Revelations from the case have been startling, including claims that the killing was a paid hit orchestrated by Anthony “Big Jook” Mims, brother of Memphis rapper Yo Gotti. Testimony alleges that a hefty sum of $100,000 was placed as a bounty on Young Dolph, though Johnson and Smith reportedly had no prior knowledge of encountering the rapper on the day of the tragic incident.

In another twist, Anthony “Big Jook” Mims met a tragic end in a targeted shooting outside a local restaurant on January 13, 2024, yet no arrests have been made in connection with his murder. The intricate web of relationships and events surrounding Young Dolph’s killing continues to unravel with each new development.
