Tata Sons has obtained approval from the Competition Commission of India for acquiring an additional 10% stake in Tata Play from a Temasek Holdings affiliate. This acquisition will increase Tata Sons' ownership to 70%, with the remaining 30% being held by Walt Disney. Tata Play and Airtel Digital TV are reportedly on the verge of merging their satellite TV businesses to become a $1.6 billion entity in response to the growing trend of subscribers shifting to digital streaming. Together, they hold over 35 million paid subscribers, making up over half of India's 60 million DTH subscriber base as of September last year, according to government data.
