Jermaine Dupri sparks controversy by suggesting that Dawn Robinson’s homelessness was a lifestyle choice rather than due to financial struggles.
In a recent Instagram live session, music mogul Jermaine Dupri raised doubts about former En Vogue star Dawn Robinson's claims of living in her car for nearly three years. Dupri questioned the validity of Robinson's situation, pointing out the presence of an assistant in her life as contradictory to her alleged financial hardship.
Not holding back, Dupri boldly stated, "Having an assistant is not something that you should even think about if you don’t have no money," adding, "It changed my whole vibe...ain't no way she got an assistant and she ain’t got no money."
Robinson, renowned for her soulful vocals in the '90s R&B group, En Vogue, recently disclosed her struggles in a candid YouTube video. She revealed her living situation, attributing her circumstances to a series of unfortunate events that led to her residing in her vehicle.
Despite the skepticism from Dupri, Robinson detailed her journey of homelessness, tracing it back to her time staying with her parents during the pandemic and subsequently being stranded in a hotel upon returning to Los Angeles. Robinson received support from her co-manager, who footed the bill for her accommodations while she continued to grapple with unstable living conditions.
While Dupri maintained his stance that Robinson's homelessness was a choice, attributing it to a minimalist lifestyle trend, Robinson shared her current sense of liberation after moving to Malibu with the help of generous individuals, including her "forever mother-in-law."
The revelation of Robinson's circumstances has garnered immense support from social media users, with calls for financial assistance from industry peers like Monica and Top Dawg Entertainment's Top Dawg, who allegedly offered to cover Robinson's rent for a year. Additionally, Robinson's ex-husband, Andre "Dre" Allen, reportedly extended a job opportunity to aid her in her journey to stability.
