Actress Honey Lee Addresses Tax Audit Results
Actress Honey Lee has responded to allegations of tax evasion in a statement released by her label TEAMHOPE on March 7 KST. The official clarification highlighted that no deliberate tax evasion or dodging was found during the audit related to Honey Lee's entertainment work.
TEAMHOPE's statement explained that in addition to acting, Honey Lee's diverse activities in traditional Korean music performances, content creation, and investments required the establishment of the corporation Hope Project. Income from various ventures was reported as corporate revenue to differentiate it from her acting earnings, leading to the payment of corporate taxes.
During a recent audit focused on corporate artists, authorities determined that the revenue should have been treated as personal income subject to personal income taxes. Consequently, additional taxes were levied and duly paid by the actress.
The agency emphasized that Honey Lee faced no severe penalties for fraudulent activities but was penalized for inaccuracies in tax filing procedures. Despite the difference in tax categorization interpretation, Honey Lee has fully cooperated with tax authorities, paying an amount exceeding the highest statutory tax rate.
The public figure, known for her responsibility and compliance with tax laws, has consistently upheld her tax obligations. Previously, Honey Lee had undergone a rigorous tax audit resulting in a significant additional tax amount, making headlines as the highest known tax imposition on a South Korean celebrity.
