IU Takes on Dual Roles in Upcoming Netflix Drama 'When Life Gives You Tangerines'

Get ready for IU's long-awaited return to television as she gears up to play two distinct roles in the highly-anticipated Netflix drama 'When Life Gives You Tangerines', premiering on March 7th KST.

This groundbreaking drama, boasting a whopping 600 billion won budget, marks IU's first TV venture in six years following her acclaimed performance in 'Hotel Del Luna' (2019). The collaboration of renowned screenwriter Im Sang Chun ('Fight for My Way,' 'When the Camellia Blooms') and director Kim Won Seok ('Signal,' 'My Mister') has sparked immense excitement among fans.

Titled in the rich Jeju dialect as a gesture of gratitude for hard work, 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' unfolds the multigenerational tale of the fiery Ae Soon, hailing from 1950s Jeju, and the steadfast Gwan Shik, her unwavering supporter.

IU shines as Ae Soon in her formative years, while esteemed actress Moon So Ri steps into the character in adulthood. Notably, IU challenges herself by portraying Ae Soon's daughter simultaneously, a first-time feat for the versatile star.

After her riveting portrayal of the tormented Jang Man Wol in 'Hotel Del Luna,' fans eagerly anticipate IU's nuanced transformation in this compelling narrative. Ae Soon, described as a "yomangjin" character, embodies wit and vigor in the face of societal hurdles, perfectly resonant with IU's magnetic presence.

Director Kim Won Seok praises IU's seamless embodiment of Ae Soon, affirming, "IU embodies the spirit of Ae Soon effortlessly. Audiences will witness every facet of IU's beloved charm through this drama."

To amplify excitement, IU and fellow lead Park Bo Gum will grace KBS 1TV’s 'Gayo Stage' for a special appearance, adding a unique touch to their promotion. The duo will captivate viewers with a nostalgic duet in retro school attire reminiscent of the 1970s, paying homage to their characters in the drama.

Stay tuned for a captivating performance by IU and Park Bo Gum, set to air in mid-March, as 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' promises an enthralling journey of resilience and charisma through the lens of two extraordinary talents.
