Popular rapper San E, whose real name is Jung San, has been granted a deferred prosecution decision following an investigation into an alleged assault on a pedestrian.
On February 25th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office made the decision not to indict San E on charges of special injury, opting for deferred prosecution instead.
Deferred prosecution is when the prosecution acknowledges there is enough evidence for an indictment but chooses not to proceed with a trial due to mitigating circumstances. This outcome also ensures that no criminal record is established.
The incident occurred on July 28th last year, when San E allegedly assaulted a pedestrian, identified as 'A,' near a park entrance in Mapo-gu, Seoul. According to reports, he confronted 'A' about bicycle handling and supposedly used his phone and other items to attack the individual. San E was later booked by the police in August 2023.
'A' claimed to have suffered a cut near the eye and damage to some teeth during the alleged assault. Following an initial investigation by the police at the scene, both San E and 'A' were sent home.
San E's father, who was present during the incident, was also charged with assaulting 'A,' while 'A' faced charges of mutual assault. However, since both parties decided not to press charges against each other, the case was closed due to a non-prosecutable offense that required a complaint.
On January 10th, the police forwarded San E's case to the prosecution without detention.
After the news of the incident became public, San E issued a formal apology, expressing remorse to the victim involved in the assault case.
In a separate development, Zhou Jieqiong (Kyulkyung) and Oscar have denied rumors of dating, clarifying that they are just friends.
