Song Joong Ki Unveils New Look and Role as Global Ambassador After 'Bogotá' Box Office Struggles

In his first public appearance in almost two months, Song Joong Ki is back in the spotlight with a beaming smile that has captured attention. The actor, who recently faced disappointment with the box office performance of 'Bogotá: City of the Lost', has made a cheerful comeback.

Previously, Song Joong Ki gave fans insider details about the film, where he portrays Gukhee, a character who relocates to Bogotá, Colombia, following the IMF crisis in search of a fresh beginning. The narrative unfolds with Gukhee forming connections with Suyoung (played by Lee Hee Joon) and Sergeant Park (portrayed by Kwon Hae Hyo), who play significant roles in Bogotá's Korean community.

In his preparation for the role, Song Joong Ki shared, "Ahead of filming in Colombia, I acquired a heavy vehicle license as my character engages in smuggling and drives a large truck." He also discussed his physical transformation, remarking, "To signify a 15-year time leap, I underwent a haircut. Upon my arrival in Colombia, I noticed the locals had freckles due to the intense sun, so I incorporated that element into my appearance."

Despite his unwavering commitment, 'Bogotá' failed to meet expectations at the box office. Song Joong Ki went above and beyond to promote the film, appearing on various platforms for unprecedented publicity efforts. However, according to the Korean Film Council's report in mid-January, the movie placed sixth in box office rankings with only 400,000 viewers.

The unexpected setback took an emotional toll on the actor, as revealed during a GV event at Megabox Seongsu in January. Fellow actor Lee Sung Min expressed his sorrow, stating, "These days, the parking lots are empty, and it pains me. The theaters feel deserted. Releasing a film during such times is incredibly challenging for actors. It makes me feel like I want to give up."

In response, Song Joong Ki acknowledged the challenging landscape of the Korean film industry, saying, "My promotional duties for 'Bogotá' conclude with today's GV. Releasing a movie at this time is a privilege, and I strived to showcase it positively. I genuinely appreciate everyone who saw the film." He added, "Actors aim to create compelling content and offer solace to audience members. We will persist in delivering diverse and captivating projects that uplift spirits. Your support means everything. Thank you."

Following a period of reflection, Song Joong Ki made a surprise return on March 2nd by revealing his new role as a global ambassador for a renowned brand. Sharing a radiant photo on social media, he expressed his joy and anticipation for upcoming endeavors.

In tandem with his professional ventures, Song Joong Ki's personal life has also garnered public interest. Following his divorce, rumors emerged in December 2022 about his relationship with former British actress Katy Louise Saunders. The couple officially announced their relationship in 2021 and later confirmed their marriage and Katy's pregnancy on January 30th, 2023.

June 2023 marked the arrival of their first son, eliciting widespread congratulations. Subsequently, in July 2024, reports circulated about their second child on the way, culminating in the birth of their daughter in November 2024. Song Joong Ki, now a proud father of two, embarks on new chapters in his personal and professional journey.
