Olivia Marsh Confesses to Plagiarism and Resolves Dispute with Original Artist
/Article

Singer-songwriter Olivia Marsh has confessed to plagiarism and has quickly settled with the original artist.

On February 24, Marsh's agency, MPLIFY, issued a statement addressing the plagiarism scandal surrounding her song "Backseat." Speculation had been circulating about the similarities between "Backseat" and Isaac Dunbar's track "Onion Boy."

Isaac Dunbar took to social media to assert, "I wrote and produced 'Onion Boy' by myself in my bedroom in 2019." MPLIFY admitted the validity of Dunbar's claims and acknowledged the resemblances between the two songs.

Efforts were swiftly made by the agency to address the issue. They announced, "We have come to a fair agreement with Isaac Dunbar. We are in the process of settling all required procedures, including adjusting composition rights and giving credit to the original artist to safeguard his rights." MPLIFY also pledged to enhance internal oversight, stating, "We will learn from this incident and ensure that such oversights are prevented in the future. We extend our sincere apologies to Isaac Dunbar and the disappointed fans."

Despite the controversy, Olivia Marsh made her debut in October last year with her self-penned song "42." Recently, on February 13, she dropped her first album, 'Meanwhile'. Marsh is also recognized as the elder sibling of NJZ band member Danielle.
