Drake Makes Strategic Move in Legal Battle with UMG Over Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us"

Drake is recalibrating his approach in the legal showdown with Universal Music Group regarding Kendrick Lamar's controversial track, "Not Like Us."

In a surprising turn of events, Drake is now set to tone down aspects of his lawsuit against Universal Music Group, hinting at a potential shift in strategy in his highly-publicized dispute over Kendrick Lamar's provocative diss song.

Initially, the Canadian superstar had accused UMG of artificially inflating the success of the track through questionable streaming practices and tactics, alleging that it not only damaged his reputation but also posed a threat to his safety following Lamar's incendiary accusations.

UMG, on the other hand, is seeking to postpone an upcoming pretrial conference, arguing that Drake's legal arguments may lack merit.

Led by attorney Rollin A. Ransom, UMG's legal team formally requested a delay of the scheduled April 2, 2025 conference, indicating their intent to file a motion to dismiss by March 17.

The outcome of this motion could determine the future course of the case — whether it progresses to trial or gets dismissed.

Sourced documents suggest that Drake has agreed to retract certain crucial claims from his lawsuit against UMG, although specific details of the withdrawn allegations remain undisclosed.

This latest development raises doubts about the initial robustness of Drake's legal contentions against the music giant.

Despite these adjustments, Drake is reportedly eager to proceed with the discovery phase to gather evidence, a move contested by UMG, which argues that this process should wait until the court rules on their motion for dismissal.
