Broadcaster Seo Yuri has made a public statement about her decision to step back from the contentious online show known as the “Excel broadcast.”

In a post on Instagram on May 20th KST, Seo Yuri expressed, “I have chosen to withdraw from the Excel broadcast after careful consideration. I will refrain from elaborating further on this matter to prevent any unnecessary harm to others. I aim to pursue a different path ahead.”

She went on to comment, “People will continue to have their opinions and express themselves differently. Nevertheless, please don’t be concerned about me—I am not distressed. I will hold onto the encouragement and trust bestowed upon me deep within my heart.”

Seo Yuri faced criticism recently for her involvement in an “Excel broadcast,” a program where BJs compete through suggestive dancing to receive donations from viewers. Following clips from the show spreading on online platforms, her participation received varied reactions.

Addressing the situation, Seo Yuri stated, “I acknowledge that being part of such a program may not be a point of pride. However, does that justify ridiculing or undermining others? Despite my frustration, I have endeavored to fulfill my duties with sincerity.”

She added, “I may have underestimated how swiftly society labels and judges individuals. Nonetheless, I uphold faith in a world that appreciates those who persevere and endure resolutely till the end.”

Emphasizing empathy, she urged the public, “I hope people understand the power of their words, as a thoughtless remark can ruin someone’s day or shatter their spirit.”

Separately, Seo Yuri garnered attention last year for her separation from producer Choi Byung Gil, with whom she had tied the knot in 2019. The public dispute between them revolved around financial matters, particularly a loan disagreement, which led to accusatory social media posts from both parties. By September, Seo Yuri announced the repayment of a 1.14 billion KRW loan (approximately $820,000) and later reported an additional payment made in April this year.
