Donald Trump is expected to be gifted a $400 million jet by the royal family of Qatar, in what could be considered the most lavish presidential gift in U.S. history.
President Trump is making arrangements to accept a $400 million Boeing 747-8 from the Qatari royal family while visiting Doha next week, making it possibly the most extravagant gift ever bestowed upon a sitting U.S. president.
Referred to as a "flying palace" by insiders, the jet will be used as a temporary Air Force One for Trump's second term before being handed over to his presidential library foundation by early 2029.
Having personally viewed the aircraft at West Palm Beach International Airport in February 2025, Trump's new jet is being customized by the defense contractor L3Harris to meet the required safety and security standards for presidential use, including encrypted communications and classified technologies.
The Department of Justice has scrutinized the agreement and concluded that it adheres to the laws governing foreign gifts, bribery, and emoluments clauses of the U.S. Constitution.
Nonetheless, the acceptance of such a high-value gift from a foreign government has sparked discussions on ethical considerations.
This aircraft represents a significant upgrade from Trump's current personal plane, dubbed "Trump Force One," with a faster and more luxurious option from Qatar, albeit lacking some of the advanced defense capabilities present in the U.S. government’s aircraft.
It is anticipated that post-Trump's presidency, the jet will be utilized for private journeys and possibly showcased as part of the library’s collections.
