During the evening of May 23 KST, the four main party candidates in South Korea's 21st presidential election participated in the most recent presidential debate, which was broadcast live across all major television networks.
The debate featured Lee Jae Myung from the Democratic Party of Korea, Kim Moon Soo from the People Power Party, Lee Jun Seok from the Reform Party, and Kwon Young Gook from the Korean Democratic Labor Party. They each took turns sharing their stances and promises on important issues like healthcare and pensions for an aging population, addressing climate change, and more.
The debate was also streamed live on YouTube through various news channels, including KBS News, attracting many viewers who shared their opinions on the candidates through live comments.
During the debate, viewers noticed a comment from the official YouTube channel KBS WORLD Arabic stating, "Moon Soo is doing well today," which sparked controversy. Critics questioned the objectivity of KBS, a government-operated broadcasting station, for openly supporting a specific candidate.
KBS WORLD Arabic later clarified that the comment was not made by their team and suggested that the account might have been hacked. They assured that an investigation was underway and requested viewers to refrain from making inappropriate remarks towards them.
Subsequently, the KBS WORLD Arabic channel was removed from YouTube, raising suspicions about the legitimacy of the claim that the account had been compromised.
As the 21st presidential election in South Korea progresses, overseas citizens have been voting since May 20 KST. Domestic preliminary voting is scheduled for May 29-30, with the official election day set for June 3 KST, a national holiday.
