The singer and actress IU has once again demonstrated her dedication to giving back by making a donation of 200 million KRW (approximately $143,090) to celebrate her birthday this year. Her agency, EDAM Entertainment, revealed on May 16 that IU donated under the name 'IUAENA,' a combination of her name and her fanbase, UAENA. The donation was distributed evenly among four organizations, each receiving 500 million KRW (around $357,730).
The funds will be utilized to support vulnerable groups in South Korea, such as low-income families, elderly individuals living alone, youth transitioning into independence, single-parent households, and individuals with disabilities. The donations were handed over to Hope Joyagdol, the National Center for the Rights of the Child, Happygiver, and Ddadong. The money will be directed towards providing living assistance for struggling households and seniors, aiding youths in societal integration, extending financial help to single parents for medical and educational needs, and enhancing facilities and assistive technologies for people with disabilities.
IU has consistently made charitable donations on significant occasions like her birthday, debut anniversary, and year-end holidays. Earlier this year, she contributed 200 million KRW (around $143,090) to aid in wildfire recovery and help firefighters in the Gyeongsang area. Additionally, in May, she donated 150 million KRW ($107,334) in support of children and teenagers in need on children's day.
Including her most recent donation, IU's total contributions in 2025 have now reached 500 million KRW (approximately $357,730), underscoring her enduring commitment to kindness and social responsibility. On another note, IU is gearing up for the release of her third remake album on May 27, her first remake project in eight years. She is also getting ready to start filming for MBC's upcoming drama '21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife.'
