The group, previously known as (G)I-DLE, has entered a new era with their rebranded name, i-dle.
At 6 PM KST today, i-dle will unveil their 8th mini album "We are" on various music streaming platforms. This comeback comes after a 10-month hiatus following the release of their 7th mini album "I SWAY" in July 2023. With all members renewing their contracts with CUBE Entertainment and celebrating their 7th debut anniversary in 2024, the album is gaining considerable attention as their first significant move forward with the simplified group name.
On May 2, in honor of their 7th anniversary, the group officially changed their name from (G)I-DLE to i-dle by dropping the "G." This change symbolizes the group's evolving identity, which transcends traditional gender labels and strives to offer innovative music and concepts.
In celebration of the transition, i-dle released visually captivating videos, including "(G)" as a symbolic farewell to the letter "G" and an i-dentity trailer where each member bid farewell to (G). Alongside, they launched a special album titled "We are i-dle," presenting their past hits in a new light as a five-member ensemble, reinforcing their redefined artistic direction.
The new album "We are" includes six tracks:
Title track: “Good Thing” Pre-release single: “Girlfriend” B-sides: “Love Tease,” “Chain,” “Unstoppable,” and “If You Want” In line with the theme of unity and progression, all members contributed to the songwriting and production.
Notably, Soyeon, recognized for her songwriting skills, composed and wrote both the lead single “Good Thing” and “Girlfriend.” The former embodies i-dle's characteristic bold and empowered vibe, while the latter offers comforting support to a friend going through heartbreak.
With a blend of retro elements, clever 8-bit sound effects, and catchy hooks like “Holy moly shhh,” “Good Thing” features a point choreography involving a "thumbs-up" gesture that has generated buzz through pre-release clips. The “Good Thing” Challenge, initiated with a snippet of the song, has already attracted notable influencers, indicating its potential for viral popularity.
Following the release of "We are" at 6 PM, i-dle will interact with fans through a COMEBACK LIVE event at 9 PM via Naver NOW’s Chzzzik and their official YouTube channel.
