So Ji Sub's agency, 51k, posted a warning on social media on May 21, alerting the public to a case of fraud where an individual was impersonating one of their managers. The impersonator had been making false group reservations at restaurants under the pretext of arranging company dinners with the actor. They would then order expensive alcoholic beverages but disappear without paying, a practice known as "no-show" scams.
51k clarified that they never make restaurant reservations in their actors' names or request purchases of alcohol or other items. The agency is treating the issue seriously and intends to take legal action against the perpetrators.
Apart from So Ji Sub, other celebrities such as Lim Young Woong, Song Ga In, Ha Jung Woo, and Byeon Woo Seok have fallen victim to similar scams. The Korean National Police Agency reported an increase in scams involving celebrities, entertainment professionals, and government officials. The case is currently being investigated by the Phishing Crime Investigation Unit at Gangwon Provincial Police Agency.
