/Article

Kim Kardashian is said to be in hot water as a social media mishap has sparked a potential legal battle.

A lawsuit has been filed against Kim Kardashian for defamation by Ivan Cantu, a project manager from New York, according to TMZ. The accusation stems from Kim mistakenly associating a man with the same name as a death row prisoner in a social media post back in February 2024.

While trying to bring attention to the case of Texas death row inmate Ivan “Abner” Cantu, Kim inadvertently shared a photo of a different individual with the same name while urging followers to sign a petition against the inmate's execution.

Despite removing the post afterwards, Ivan Cantu claims that the damage was done as millions of Kim's followers had already seen it, causing him public embarrassment and ridicule. Seeking compensation, Ivan has filed a lawsuit against the celebrity.

The legal action includes allegations of defamation, stating that the error caused Ivan distress and suffering, leading to emotional trauma and negative impact on his reputation. The legal filing further claims that Ivan experienced sleepless nights, nightmares, and required medical and emotional support after the incident.

Kim Kardashian is known for using her platform to raise awareness about various social issues, including the plight of death row inmates. Her advocacy has shed light on individual cases and broader systemic problems within the criminal justice system.
