DJ Paul Unveils How Late Lord Infamous Inspired Three 6 Mafia's Iconic Stage Name

DJ Paul recently shed light on the genesis of the renowned Memphis Hip-Hop ensemble Three 6 Mafia's moniker.

During a candid conversation on the Dumb Blonde Podcast hosted by Bunnie XO, DJ Paul cleared the air on the origins of the group's name, dispelling enduring speculation linking it to satanism. Reflecting on the inspiration behind the name, DJ Paul credited a lyric by Lord Infamous as the catalyst.

"Lord Infamous casually dropped 'Triple Six Mafia' in a song," he recounted. "That wasn't our official name. It just resonated with me. He said, ‘A Triple Six Mafia falling dun, dun, dun in a silencer,’ and I was instantly drawn to it. It sparked something."

Setting the record straight, DJ Paul refuted any claims of satanic association and affirmed the innocence of their naming process.

Moving forward, DJ Paul elaborated on how he incorporated the phrase into their music production, leading to its rapid embrace by the audience.

"It wasn't solidified as our name initially," he disclosed. "I began sampling it in our music. Eventually, when the time came to formalize a group, suggesting 'Triple Six Mafia' received unanimous approval."

As their popularity escalated, a diverse fan base materialized, surprising even the group themselves.

"Before we knew it, we had a significant following among white fans," DJ Paul shared. "Performing in predominantly white clubs became a common occurrence. It was unexpected, to say the least."

Transitioning into a discussion about Lord Infamous and his purported flirtation with satanism, DJ Paul clarified misconceptions surrounding the late rapper's beliefs.

"Lord Infamous did mention dabbling in satanism," he acknowledged. "However, it wasn't a deeply ingrained belief for him. I recently watched an interview where he recounted vivid experiences about hell and demons—but it was more of a tale than an endorsement."

When probed about the group's supposed ties to satanism, DJ Paul articulated a definitive denial.

"Our reputation often precedes us," he remarked. "The Triple Six Mafia name was more about cultivating an edgy image than any sinister affiliations. There was no formal association with satanic ideologies; it was merely a creative aesthetic."

Moreover, DJ Paul underscored his upbringing rooted in church traditions and music, underscoring his background in gospel music.

"With a foundation in church hymns and organ playing, my roots are firmly entrenched in gospel music," he emphasized. "I frequented church services in Mississippi, steeped in spiritual practices."

Lord Infamous tragically passed away at 40 from a severe heart attack in 2013. Before the inception of Three 6 Mafia, DJ Paul and Lord Infamous collaborated in the esteemed duo Da Serial Killaz, culminating in the release of the popular mixtape Come With Me To Hell in 1993. This project showcased hits like "Tear da Club Up" and "P#### Movie," which would later resonate with Three 6 Mafia fans.
