SM Entertainment's classical and jazz label, SM Classics, set a milestone in their ongoing project by successfully hosting their first K-pop orchestra concert.
On February 14th, 'SM Classics Live 2025 with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra' commemorating SM Entertainment's 30th anniversary took place at the Art Hall. Conducted by Kim Yuwon, the show featured orchestrated versions of tracks from SM Classics' debut album 'Across The New World,' released last month. This project showcases SM's efforts to expand the musical spectrum by fusing classical, jazz, film music, world music with K-pop.
The setlist included 17 tracks such as Red Velvet's 'Red Flavor' and 'Psycho,' EXO's 'Growl,' aespa's 'Black Mamba,' SHINee's 'Sherlock,' TVXQ's 'Rising Sun,' and more. Some songs incorporated classical music elements, like EXO's 'Growl' sampling Beethoven's 'Symphony No. 5' and Jonghyun's 'End of the Day' featuring Debussy's 'Clair de Lune.' Moreover, the concert enhanced storytelling by integrating media art effects.
Established in 2020, SM Classics aims to reinterpret K-pop through orchestral and classical arrangements, expanding SM's musical vision in line with the SM 3.0 strategy. Following this concert, the company plans to globally expand live performances and music score licensing operations.
The second 'SM Classics Live 2025' concert is set to take place on February 15th at Seoul Lotte Concert Hall.
