Wendy Williams Appeals for Independence, Urges Judge to Terminate Guardianship
/Article

Wendy Williams is taking a stand to reclaim her independence and challenge her diagnosis, asserting her autonomy and refuting the need for a court-appointed guardian.

In a bold move, Wendy Williams is petitioning a judge to terminate the guardianship that has restricted her life, likening it to a “prison sentence” that has kept her away from loved ones for the last two years

The former talk show icon submitted a sworn statement on Thursday (February 12) seeking an end to the guardianship, as reported by TMZ. Williams claims to have regained her mental faculties and can now manage her affairs without external oversight.

Despite being previously diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, Williams staunchly denies having the condition and rejects assertions made by her court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrisey.

A medical reassessment is slated for February 18, with the doctor being personally selected by Wendy Williams' legal counsel who is working to dissolve the guardianship.

An Emergency Order to Show Cause will be filed the next day to expedite the legal process. In the event of a denial, Williams is prepared to pursue a jury trial to have her wishes acknowledged.

In a related development, a new documentary titled TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy has brought to light accusations by Wendy Williams against her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., over financial impropriety during the guardianship ordeal.

Alleging that her son misused her funds without consent, Williams claimed Kevin Jr. made unauthorized financial decisions that led to her Wells Fargo accounts being frozen in 2024. She also revealed incidents where her son interfered with her communication with the bank.

While expressing mixed feelings about her son, Wendy Williams is anticipating a reunion with Kevin Jr. in Miami for her father’s upcoming birthday celebration.

Reports suggest that Kevin Jr. utilized $100,000 from Williams’ American Express card prior to the account freeze, although he maintains his innocence. However, court records indicate a divergence of opinion, with the guardianship judge questioning Kevin Jr.’s ability to protect Wendy Williams from financial harm.
