A$AP Rocky Opts Out of Testifying in Los Angeles Assault Trial
A$AP Rocky has decided not to take the witness stand in his ongoing felony assault trial in Los Angeles, leaving his defense in the hands of his legal team as the case edges towards a resolution.
This pivotal choice by A$AP Rocky not to testify in his felony assault trial could have significant implications for the trial's outcome.
During a court session in Los Angeles on Tuesday (February 11), the rapper made it clear that he would be forgoing his right to testify. Following a consultation with his lawyer, Rocky made the decision to abstain from personally addressing the jury.
The judge explained to him, "You have the right to present your side of the case to the jury by testifying. It is entirely up to you whether you choose to testify or waive that right." In response, Rocky acknowledged, "I understand the consequences of my decision."
This development comes as A$AP Rocky faces two felony charges stemming from an alleged 2021 incident involving his former friend and A$AP Mob member, A$AP Relli. Prosecutors allege that Rocky brandished a handgun and fired it in Relli's direction during a confrontation, allegations vehemently denied by the rapper. If found guilty, he could be looking at a maximum sentence of 24 years behind bars.
Rocky's decision to remain silent comes after surprising testimony from his tour manager, Lou "A$AP Lou" Levin, who revealed that the artist carried a fake gun for protection after a disturbing incident with a stalker at his home.
While the testimony aimed to sow doubt about the prosecution's narrative, Rocky's defense team may have deemed it too risky to have him take the stand.
