Grieving family of the late Barbie Hsu seeks privacy during mourning period

Barbie Hsu, the cherished Taiwanese star and wife of Clon’s Koo Jun Yup, passed away suddenly, sparking an overwhelming wave of sorrow and tributes. Her mother's poignant plea has further deepened the sense of loss.

Reports from local media outlets like Taiwan's ET Today and the Central News Agency (CNA) on February 3 confirmed Barbie Hsu's death due to pneumonia related to the flu during her trip to Japan. At the age of 48, she left for Japan with her family on January 29, only to see her health deteriorate rapidly by January 31. She was rushed to a Tokyo hospital, where she sadly breathed her last on February 2.

Amidst their grief, her family remains in Japan, making arrangements for her cremation before returning her remains to Taiwan. Wang Wei Zhong, a film producer in Taiwan and a close friend of Barbie Hsu's family, expressed on behalf of her mother, "The family is in deep mourning over Barbie's passing, and we request your understanding as we navigate this difficult time."

Discussing the logistics of bringing Barbie back to Taiwan, he mentioned the need for privacy and space for the grieving family. Wang Wei Zhong emphasized the family's plea for media restraint, respecting Barbie's wish to avoid intrusion during her return to Taiwan.

Barbie Hsu was a prominent figure in Taiwan's entertainment industry, hitting the spotlight in 1994 as part of the duo SOS with her sister, Dee Hsu. Known for her roles in popular shows like 'Meteor Garden,' 'A Chinese Ghost Story,' 'Reign of Assassins,' and 'Croczilla,' Barbie's talent and charm won hearts nationwide.

Her recent marriage to former flame Koo Jun Yup in 2022 captivated the public's attention, marking a remarkable chapter in their enduring love story. The unexpected loss of such a beloved icon has left fans and admirers reeling, as tributes pour in for the star who shone bright in Taiwan's entertainment realm.
