Jeong Hyun Gyu, well-known for his appearances on reality series like ‘EXchange 2’ and 'The Devil’s Plan: Death Room’, has addressed online backlash by updating his social media profile to include the message: “I’m sorry.”
Following the airing of Episode 8 of 'The Devil’s Plan: Death Room’ on May 13, the actor changed his profile message on May 14 in response to criticism related to a scene in the episode. In the scene, Jeong and contestant Choi Hyun Joon displayed frustration over a strategic deviation, with Jeong sarcastically asking Choi if he knew basic arithmetic. This comment sparked controversy among viewers.
While the remark was likely influenced by game tension and confusion, it was perceived as overly condescending by the audience. Viewers took issue with Jeong’s tone, deeming it disrespectful, and used social media to express their discontent.
Previously, Jeong had a profile message stating “Not Park Hyun Gyu” to distinguish himself from a person with a similar name. However, after facing backlash for his comment in the show, he changed it to “I’m sorry” as a possible response to the criticism he received.
Meanwhile, ‘The Devil’s Plan: Death Room’ is available on Netflix and features a brain survival game format where participants from different professions compete in intellectual challenges while living together for seven days. The final episode is set to air on May 20.
