The creator of the popular YouTube channel 'Taldeok Camp (Sojang)' has challenged the recent guilty verdict in a cyber rumor case.

Legal insiders have revealed that the creator has lodged an appeal with the assistance of legal counsel. The prosecution has also decided to appeal, deeming the initial sentence as overly forgiving. Their earlier plea had sought a four-year jail term back in October.

On January 15, the court handed down a two-year suspended sentence to the creator, along with a fine of 1.75 million USD and a requirement to complete 120 hours of community service. The court underscored the gravity of spreading defamatory content, highlighting how the creator had repeatedly disseminated false rumors about various celebrities on YouTube for personal gain.

From 2021 to 2023, the creator posted videos containing baseless gossip about popular figures such as IVE's Jang Won Young, BTS, EXO, aespa, and Kang Daniel, allegedly raking in a revenue of 2.08 million USD.

Furthermore, Jang Won Young has taken legal action against the creator, resulting in a ruling by the appeals court on January 22 that the creator must pay 42,000 USD plus interest to Jang Won Young, a reduced sum from the initial damages of 83,000 USD. The creator has lodged an appeal and requested a stay on enforcing the ruling.
