KBS has apologized following its response to a viewer's petition regarding a video concerning NewJeans. The petition titled "We Demand a Halt to Malicious Reporting and an Official Apology" was addressed by KBS after being posted on their viewer petition board.
One netizen expressed disappointment over a video containing provocative phrases despite official statements debunking rumors about conflicts within NewJeans' families. They also mentioned a past incident where KBS misquoted a YouTuber, leading to misunderstanding about NewJeans making "anti-Korean" remarks. The petitioner criticized KBS for using sensational and misleading thumbnails to attract views without verifying facts or allowing the group to respond, and demanded corrections and an apology.
The petition gained support from 3,826 people by May 2, exceeding the required 1,000 signatures for KBS to respond within 30 days. In response, KBS acknowledged the concerns over the video's inappropriate wording and took it down. They apologized to viewers for any discomfort caused and pledged to be more careful with all aspects of digital content production.
NewJeans is currently involved in a legal dispute with ADOR over their exclusive contract.
