Could Tariffs Be the Downfall of Temu, Wish, Shein, Fashion Nova, and Others?
/Article

Tariffs are quietly causing prices to rise on inexpensive online products, potentially leading American consumers to face higher costs at retailers like Amazon, Fashion Nova, and SHEIN. Despite initial beliefs that the tariffs would impact companies importing goods, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and former Vice President Harris warned that the costs would ultimately be passed on to consumers. Recent reports of increased prices on online items due to added tariffs have sparked concerns. Some retailers like Temu, Wish, and Amazon are experiencing significant cost hikes, with potential price increases of up to 145 percent. The impact of tariffs on businesses like Sia Collective, a sneaker brand, highlights the challenges of maintaining affordable products while manufacturing overseas. The elimination of the "de minimis" exemption for low-value packages from China is also expected to result in higher costs for retailers. Considering that India may not be a viable alternative due to insufficient cost advantages, consumers may soon see rising prices at popular online stores.
