Bishop T.D. Jakes Passing Next Generation Leadership Duties to His Daughter Following Near Fatal Heart Attack
/Article

Bishop T.D. Jakes has decided to pass on the leadership responsibilities of The Potter’s House to his daughter and son-in-law after surviving a life-threatening heart attack. This significant change in leadership was announced by Jakes during a heartfelt service at The Potter’s House in Dallas. He expressed his intention to gradually step back from the senior pastor roles and entrust them to his daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and son-in-law, Touré Roberts.

Jakes emphasized that this transition should be seen as a transformation rather than an exit, highlighting that it will not only pass on a mantle but also increase their impact. The 67-year-old spiritual leader suffered a severe heart attack in November 2024, which was a wake-up call for him to start delegating responsibilities while continuing to serve as Chairman of the Board and spiritual guide of The Potter’s House.

Despite his health scare, Jakes returned to preaching by the end of 2024 and has reaffirmed his commitment to continuing his ministry. The timing of this leadership change aligns with The Potter’s House's anniversary celebrations, with Jakes stressing the importance of preparing for the future and ensuring the ministry's longevity. Sarah and Touré have been quietly managing the church behind the scenes since late 2024, and this transition marks a sacred handover aimed at fostering innovative ministry for the next generation.

Additionally, Jakes plans to focus on broader initiatives through the T.D. Jakes Group and a new podcast partnership with iHeartMedia, addressing crucial issues such as economic empowerment, social unrest, and narrowing opportunity gaps.
