The controversy arose from legal proceedings involving Lee Seung Gi's father-in-law, who is the husband of actress Kyun Mi Ri. Accused of manipulating stock prices through deceptive public disclosures, he faced legal repercussions that culminated in a retrial following a verdict reversal by the Supreme Court due to the severity of the offense.

Lee Seung Gi tied the knot with Kyun Mi Ri's daughter, actress Lee Da In, in April 2023, and the couple welcomed their first child in February 2024.
