The apology came in response to a controversy sparked earlier that day concerning elevator cleanliness. Kim had posted a selfie with her children, Shinwoo and Leejun, in which they were standing on the elevator handrail wearing shoes. This prompted questions from the public about hygiene standards, with some criticizing her for not teaching her children proper behavior. Despite Kim's explanation that they had cleaned the handrail before leaving, the criticism persisted, focusing on safety and social etiquette.

In light of the mounting criticism, Kim deleted the photo. She married a man not in show business, who is 10 years older than her, in 2015, but they divorced in 2019. Currently, she is raising her two sons as a single mother and is in a public relationship with singer and painter MyQ.
