Diddy has obtained court approval to access earlier versions of Cassie Ventura's unreleased memoir as part of his defense against abuse allegations in his upcoming federal trial on May 5.
In a recent legal ruling, Diddy was granted access to previous drafts of an unpublished memoir reportedly written by Cassie Ventura, a key witness in his pending criminal trial. The judge ordered that these earlier versions, already in the government's possession, be provided to Diddy's legal team by April 25.
Diddy, facing serious federal charges including sex trafficking and racketeering, denies the abuse allegations made by Ventura, asserting that their relationship was consensual. His legal representatives argue that inconsistencies in the memoir can help undermine Ventura's testimony.
Despite objections from Ventura's lawyers and federal prosecutors, who argued that the subpoena was intrusive and irrelevant, the court permitted Diddy to access the versions already in the government's possession, but not other related materials like diaries, notes, emails, or financial records.
The case drew widespread attention following the release of surveillance footage showing Diddy physically assaulting Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel. The video led to public criticism and Diddy's public apology, acknowledging his actions as "disgusting."
The admissibility of the video as evidence in the trial is still under consideration by Judge Subramanian. Diddy's federal trial is scheduled to commence on May 5.
