Luring Disgruntled Tesla Owners: Polestar Offers Discounts in Bid to Win Over EV Enthusiasts
/Article

Polestar is introducing a promotion in the United States, offering discounts of up to $20,000 on a lease of its Polestar 3 vehicle to existing Tesla owners. The aim is to attract Tesla owners who may be dissatisfied with the brand. The discounted price for a long-range, dual-motor Polestar 3 with all upgrades would be $73,000 for Tesla owners, compared to the starting price of around $93,000. The campaign is a response to slower demand for electric vehicles and concerns about potential increases in vehicle prices due to higher tariffs. Polestar's offer is limited to the Polestar 3 model produced in a Volvo Cars factory in South Carolina.

Automakers like Ford and Stellantis are also introducing discounts to maintain market share amid fears of price hikes due to higher U.S. tariffs. Polestar is looking to expand its production in the U.S. and reduce reliance on China, a move influenced by recent tariffs imposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump. The promotion has been successful, with Polestar reporting high order volumes for the Polestar 3. Lucid, another U.S. EV manufacturer, has joined the trend by offering discounts on its luxury Air sedans to customers who trade in a Tesla vehicle.
