Barry Callebaut, the Swiss chocolate manufacturer, is planning to boost its production in the United States in response to the challenging business environment in North America. The company aims to stay connected with its customers by expanding its production facility in the U.S. to about 100,000 tons. CEO Peter Feld mentioned that they are also investing more in their plant in Brantford, Canada.

In the face of fluctuating tariff announcements by President Donald Trump, companies operating in the U.S. are facing uncertainties. Barry Callebaut's decision to increase production in the U.S. comes as a strategic move to mitigate the impact of tariffs. Additionally, Lindt previously announced plans to supply chocolate from Europe to Canada as a way to avoid Canadian tariffs linked to U.S. custom duties.

North America was a significant market for Barry Callebaut, accounting for more than 10% of its global sales volume in the 2023/24 financial year. Despite challenges, CEO Feld expressed optimism about the future following a decline in the company's annual volume guidance, which caused its shares to drop to a twelve-year low.
